Report for Project 3

Gibson Holahan

For project three my campaign is the true potential of esports.  The intention is to increase the awareness of esport’s rapid growth and the possibility of esports at the Olympics. The three genres I used were Twitter, Tumblr, and an infograph.   My target audience is casual gamers that are already plugged into video games but aren't familiar with esports. Twitter was a great genre for my campaign however tumblr did not have the same response.  The only responses I got with tumblr is when I shared my blogs on my twitter page.  Logos and ethics was a huge part of promoting my campaign because I was trying to persuade a casual gamer that gaming has the potential to make to the olympics.  Using pathos wouldn't convince my audience they needed facts and sources.  I didn't directly cite my sources but my retweets were research papers where I found most of my information.

All Tumblr, Twitter, and the infograph had unique features that I took advantage of to better promote my campaign. On twitter I found the poll feature allowed me to interact with my audience and I also used retweet accounts.  These accounts have around 30k followers and retweeted any tweet they were tagged in and liked the tweet as well. I also directly messaged (DM) my followers asking what they thought towards certain tweets and polls.  Since I obtained more of a following through twitter I also used the share program on tumblr to share my blogs on twitter.  Keeping up with current events dealing with my campaign also helped.  For example my blog on the Asian Games announcing that esports will be a medal sport in 2018 was very successful.  NewZoo also released 2017 research paper after project 2  so I was able to update  statistics and this is seen mostly ink my infograph.  For my infograph I shared it on twitter and my tumblr page. I used the program, Canvas, to create the infograph.  Tumblr I used the hashtags, esports, video games, and the Olympics for most of my post to promote my page.  I followed around 10 people a day for both twitter and tumbler. I tried to post as frequent as possible and message my followers as well.  I received more followers from posting often and interacting through polls than following a lot and waiting for follow backs.  Another social media outlet I used was my discord community and PS4 community.  Since I play a lot of online video games and have a mic I promoted my twitter page while playing video games.  I also used my other gaming twitter account to promote my campaign.  With my other account I retweeted from my original page and had the link to my tumblr in the bio. All my genre’s were connected for example my infograph had a my twitter handle at the bottom and my tumblr had my twitter handle in the bio as well.  With the twitter page I promoted my info graph and I shared blogs that were from my tumblr.  I would also direct message my followers and ask them if they participated in the recent poll or what they thought of the infograph.   I promoted my twitter page for 2 weeks and my tumblr for one week.  My infograph I posted on my twitter and tumblr and has received positive feedback from both social medias.  When the audience did not respond I would delete the tweet and keep the information reword it the next day and tag a retweet account.  When my audience didn't respond on tumblr I would share my blogs on my twitter page.  I would also delete the post worse case scenario and add more hashtags.  Overall though my tweets and blogs were successful and I only deleted and reworded at the beginning of my campaign when I didn't have much of a following.

Promoting my campaign with tumblr and twitter I had to be aware of each individual community. All of my genres involved ethos and logos.  However, twitter I could get away with single statements whereas tumblr I had to be more formal and I had to cite or reference my sources.  My infograph was visual appealing and allowed me to use graphs and create a list which I couldn't do through Twitter or Tumblr. I chose the background color green for example to promote ethics because NewZoo research paper is the same shade of green as my infograph. Tumblr I was able to post picture and add a captions as well. One can do this on twitter, however, I felt that pictures had less of an effect on twitter due to lack of pictures posted by the twitter community relative to the Tumblr community.  I felt retweeting for twitter was more beneficial towards my page as well.  I did not hashtag while using twitter but I did tag business or committee that I mentioned in my tweets.  Tumblr hash tagging is necessary for a successful blog page.  Some of the considerations I made choosing these genres were, what genre contains most of my audience, which genres were I most familiar with, and which genre would allow me to reach the most amount of people in a short amount of time.  One of the most challenging obstacles about composing project 2 was the research and citing sources.  Project 3 the information was readily available and the only problem I faced was getting people to interact with the information.  Rewording the information from the research paper for each respected genre was difficult as well.  Another problem faced in project 3 was when someone responded negatively towards my research.  This project was difficult because we had to promote a research paper on social media.  This requires a lot of rewording and reorganization.  Overall I thought the project was fun and easier than project 2.  I enjoyed the project because I am truly passionate towards esports and if I could go back and give myself advice I would tell myself to use more pathos in project three to promote my campaign.

Genre Proposal

For my three genre proposal I am going to create a blog page exploring the possibility of exports making it to the olympics in 2024, create an info graph which contains a world map examining what part of the world esports has impacted, and next I'm going to create a twitter page that combines both the blog articles and info graph.  The blog will contain a main article examining the possibility of sorts in the 2024 LA olympics.  Then there will be other articles such as the success of exports and how south Korea sent two esport pros to carry the torch for there country.  I will also try to get an interview with one of the people on the board of the LA committee in charge of over seeing the olympics in Las Angles.  My info graph will be posted on my twitter as well as my blog page.  In my bio for my twitter page Ill have the link for my blog page.  My twitter banner will also feature my info graph is the parameters work.  My twitter will be towards gaming news and Ill try to post 3 to 4 tweets daily and obtain over 500 followers by the end of the deadline.

Research Report

For my research Ill be using reports and data from newzoos study on esports for my Blog post and my twitter page.  My twitter page will be aimed to spread the growth of exports and Im going to do this by tweeting facts and graphs from newzoo as well as the other study conducted by venture beats.  Im also going to try to email someone on the LA 2024 to see how the bid for esports in the Los Angles olympics is doing.  I will be using information on espn website as well to gather more information on the LA olympics.  All my genres will be connected through the twitter page.  I plan on posting a link to my blog as well as the advertisement on the page.  For the infographic Im going to look at advertisement campaigns that have aimed to better people perspective towards video games and get rid of the negative stereotypes revolving around video games.  I will also being using photoshop to create some visual effects in my infographic and will be researching photoshop tutorials.
